Are you seeking a pedal-powered getaway? The Big Apple, despite its hustle and bustle, offers tons of fun and scenic day trips for those who are craving a great New York bike ride. If you want to get out of town and explore parks, beaches, gardens, and more, then our guide to the best bike rides NYC has to offer will get you moving for sure! Pick up a NYC bike tour map, grab your helmet, and your ride, and set off on an exciting and convenient day adventure on one of these fab cycling day trips from New York City!

  1. Brewster, NY

This 35-mile ride with a guide will take you about 3 hours to complete one way. It starts at the north end of the Old Putnam Trail in the charming town of Brewster. You can enjoy scenic views of the Hudson on this trail and end the day with a beer tasting and belly full of yummy food at Captain Lawrence Brewing Company in Elmsford. If you’re too tired to pedal home, it’s a quick cruise to White Plains’ train station to get back to the city.

  1. Bronxville, NY

While some parts of this hour-and-45-minute ride are less scenic, it’s all worth the wait once you get to the Old Putnam Trail in Van Cortlandt Park that rambles through 14 miles of Westchester County’s gorgeous Tibbetts Brook Park. The gorgeous late 19th and 20th century mansions offer great places to stop for a bite to eat and explore.

  1. Brooklyn Heights to the Cloisters

This easy 30-mile round trip is one of the most stunning NYC has to offer. Fill up on a hardy breakfast at the Irish Café before cruising the crest of the historic Brooklyn Bridge. Then glide into Manhattan and pedal on over to the Hudson River Greenway. From there, the path is a silky smooth nine-mile coast of relatively flat paths along the river’s edge.

  1. Governors Island

Governors Island is a 173-acre island in New York Harbor and offers some of the most perfect trails for pedal pushers. The 43-acre park offers some of the most exquisite views of the city’s skyline ever, and since there are no cars in the park, it makes for a quiet and serene cycling experience.

  1. Hoboken, NJ

This two-hour ride takes you to the humble town of Hoboken. Bask in Manhattan’s sweeping skyline at Pier A Park. If you’re too tired to ride home, the PATH train is only a few short blocks away!

  1. Mattituck, NY

This is the longest cruise on our list, as it is five hours one way, but so worth the ride. Though the guided trip is only 13.5 miles, you can then spend the rest of your day exploring the Long Island vineyards and farms and beaches, all from your saddle seat.
